by Brie Handgraff Despite the rain, every mum the Rocky Mount Junior Guild secured for the annual autumn fundraiser was sold on September 26. “This was our largest sale yet and we are already looking forward to next year and selling even more with Wendy’s Mums,” said Katie Keeter. Each member was responsible for preselling seven mums at $15 each, but the annual fundraiser is highly anticipated and sales are never hard to gather. In fact, this year members presold 900 mums. “The entire community supports us and allows us to be successful every year with this mum sale,” Kristen Perry, vice president and fundraising chairwoman, said. She hopes next year to have “an even bigger sale and even more support from the community.” Patrons, such as Charles Tolan, braved the weather to buy two of the flowering plants for his fiancée, Karri Byrum. “(The mums) were all getting moved out,” Perry said. “People have come throughout the day, thankfully. People have come to get their mums so they can enjoy them at their house.” Fundraiser organizers expressed their appreciation to members. “A huge thank you to the Fundraising Committee and those that volunteered from the Guild for their hard work and help in moving 1000 mums the Friday and Saturday of the sale in the pouring rain,” said Keeter. “We could not have gotten everything together and completed without you all.”
