Join The Junior Guild
Our 2024-2025 League Year starts on September 1, 2024. Membership begins with your Provisional year, where you will learn about the Junior Guild and complete a team community service project of their choice.
Upon successful completion of your Provisional year, your Active Membership can begin. As an Active Member, you will have the opportunity to serve the league in various capacities with committee participation and even hold leadership positions, if you are interested. Active Members serve for 7 years before becoming a Sustaining Member How to Become a Provisional Member
To be eligible for 2024-2025 membership, women must be 21 years of age at the time of application and reside or work in the Nash/Edgecombe county and/or their surrounding communities. To join as a new member, please complete the New Application.

Alethea Bryant - Co-President
Alethea Bryant joined The Junior Guild in 2022 to be more involved in the community and is currently serving as Co-President. Alethea has worked in finance for over 20 years. She has always had a passion for mentoring and empowering the young women she encounters. She is passionate about making sure every woman sees their inner beauty. Modeling, singing and crafting are some of her passions. |
Renee Woodard - Co-President
Renee Woodard, a dedicated member of the Junior Guild, joined as a provisional in 2018 and now proudly serves as the co-president of the Junior Guild of Rocky. She immediately previously served two terms as the community service chairperson and has been on the community service committee since joining the Guild. Inspired by the servant heart values instilled in her by her grandparents, Renee strives to lead with compassion and kindness. She is passionate about community service and fostering meaningful connections that uplift others. Renee has a bachelor's in Sociology, leadership development, and healthcare management certifications and a master’s in healthcare administration. Renee is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., with 35 years of service, and is involved in several ministry groups at Word Tabernacle Church. She is married and has three children and two fur babies |
Sherri Bryant - Recording Secretary
Sherri Bryant joined Junior Guild in 2020, previously serving as the Communications Committee Chair. Sherri has been working in healthcare for over 11 years and serves as the Chief Health Operations Officer at OIC, Rocky Mount where she is responsible for the healthcare division of OIC. Sherri is also a Adjunct Professor in Healthcare Administration at North Carolina Wesleyan University. Sherri loves her family and giving to the community. |
Crystal Whitaker - Treasurer
Crystal Whitaker joined Junior Guild in 2022, previously serving as the Communications Committee Chair. Crystal is a Group Technology Manager at Truist where she is responsible for Disaster Recovery. She has been working in technology in the banking industry for over 20 years. Crystal is also the board secretary for The Mercer Foundation and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Chi Omega Chapter in Rocky Mount, NC. Crystal loves spending time with her family and giving to the community. |
Deanna Barnes - Communicates Chair
My name is Deanna Barnes. I am originally from Wilson, NC, and have family ties to Nash and Edgecombe counties. I attended Winston-Salem State University, where I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology, and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where I obtained my master's in education. I have previously worked in the public education system and am currently employed in the behavioral health field. For the past three years, I have been a member of the Junior Guild of Rocky Mount, and I currently serve as the chair of Communications. It has been an honor to serve and share the wonderful work The Junior Guild is doing within the community on all social media platforms. |
Jasmine Martinez - Member Engagement Co-Chair
Jasmine Martinez joined the Junior Guild in 2023. She was born and raised in Rocky Mount and the daughter of Mexican immigrants. Jasmine currently works a joined the Junior Guild to build a relationship with women who are as passionate about Rocky Mount as she is. Jasmine loves her family and loves giving back to her community. |
Phylicia Thomas - Community Service Co-Chair
Phylicia Thomas joined Junior Guild in 2023 and now serves as Community Service Co-Chair. Phylicia has graduated from North Carolina Wesleyan University with an B.S. degree in Healthcare Administration and Organizational Leadership as well as her Masters of Business Administration. As a long time residence of Nash County, Phylicia has continued to find ways and ideas to give back to the community that she was raised in. Her volunteer work includes mentoring at the Boys and Girls Club (Hollister, NC), an advocate member for NC Down Syndrome Alliance and finding ways to give back to the homeless shelters in the community. Phylicia is currently the Admissions Counselor for North Carolina Wesleyan for the Adult Studies Program. Phylicia loves to spend time with her husband Keith and their 3 boys. |
Sonya Small -Parliamentarian
Sonya Small has a bachelor's degree in business from North Carolina Wesleyan University, Masters of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University and a Masters of Science in Human Service Counseling from Liberty University. She currently works for East Carolina University as an Instructional Consultant in the College of Education (OEP-Partnership Teach/ERM Advisor). Sonya has been in education for over 23 years now and was a teacher at Northern Nash High School (Business Education) and served as a Cheerleading Coach. She also served in the Community College System for about 17 years working at Nash Community College. She is a huge advocate for education and service to the community. Sonya serves at her local church on the scholarship committee and is an Ambassador Partner. When she is not spending time with her wonderful daughter, grandson or family, she is out serving. |
