The Scholarship Committee is honored and excited to share that we’ve selected Zinia Greene as our 2021 Junior Guild Scholarship Recipient.  Zinia is graduating from Northern Nash High School with a 4.0 Cumulative GPA.  During high school, she has been involved in Marching Band, Concert Band, Cheerleading, National Honors Society, and the Knight Ambassador program.  Zinia has had the opportunity to audition for All-District and was selected to play with other great instrumentalists from our district at East Carolina University.  Along with volunteering for different organizations for the National Honors Society, she also had the opportunity to volunteer at Nash UNC Hospital in every department and had the unique opportunity to watch several heart surgeries. In the midst of all of her studies and volunteer work, she started her own business called Zinia’s Hair Boutique where her mission is to make women with all different hair textures and backgrounds feel beautiful and confident while preserving and embracing their natural beauty. Throughout high school, she has been taking nursing classes and as of June 3rd, is officially a Certified Nursing Assistant. She will begin working at Nash UNC Hospital in 2 weeks. She will further her education at UNC Charlotte where she will major in Nursing and minor in Global Health with aspirations to become a travel nurse and hairstylist. Her mission is to help change the way caregivers medically care for minorities by establishing a program that will help educate and train caregivers on the importance of understanding diverse backgrounds to better a patient’s experience and outcome.  Zina states “Not only do I see myself as a caregiver and creator, but I also see myself as a leader and innovator.”

The Junior Guild Provisional Class of 2020-2021's project was to create a long lasting, sustainable, sensory garden for all to enjoy located on the grounds of Nash UNC Hospital's Campus.  There are numerous in-kind and cash sponsors for this garden!  Without their support, the Guild could not have created such a wonderful garden.

On Saturday, March 9th, our Junior Guild ladies spent their morning cleaning our streets!  We had a great turn out and a few members brought their children - never to early to teach them how to give back to our great community.  Huge thank you to these ladies for sacrificing their Saturday morning (a cold and rainy morning at that).

Our 2018 Mum Sale was a huge success.  Our Junior Guild members sold 384 mums and our two top sellers were Tiffany Delano and Mariah McKellar.  A huge THANK YOU to all our ladies (and their significant others) who worked hard to make this possible!

Provisional Class - party in the park

5/4/2018

The Provisional Class chose to work with the Down East Partnership for Children for their project this year. They chose this particular organization due to their work with children in our communities since they are the future leaders of our community. The DEPC’s mission is “to launch every child as a healthy, lifelong learner by the end of the third grade.” They do this in part by strategically investing money into the school system and also holding events for children and their families throughout the year to build a sense of community within the twin counties. The particular focus throughout the project was updating Discovery Park by pressure washing and then painting already existing play houses with fresh paint and new trim. The provisional class was able to have the project completed by the Party In the Park on April 17th. The play houses received rave reviews from the children. Remaining paint will be donated to the DEPC for touch-ups on the houses and whatever else they would like to use the paint for throughout the year.
